Abstract
This article deals with the polycode character of text formations, which contain not one, but a set of language and not language codes. The polycode character of information is observed when the text space besides language units contains elements of other semiotic systems possessing the codes. The functions of polycode are considered based on the material of military cartoon (1941-1945) by Soviet caricaturists Viktor Deni and “Kukryniksy”. The Soviet power actively used polycode texts in own purposes: to extend and strengthen in consciousness of people a negative image of Hitler by means of metaphors and method of visual zoologization.
