Abstract
The article is devoted to the 135th birth anniversary of the Kazan archaeologist Nikolai Filippovich Kalinin. In the 1920-1950s, his research activities played an important role in the formation and development of the Kazan archaeological school. N. F. Kalinin supervised the excavations in the Kazan Kremlin, he developed an extensive program of archaeological research of medieval Kazan, conducted extensive work aimed at the identification and study of archaeological monuments in the territory of Tatarstan. In the 1930s, N.F. Kalinin began teaching and created a student archaeological group at Kazan University. The materials on the history and archaeology of Tatarstan collected by him are still relevant at present.
