Abstract
In various sources, there is fragmentary information on variational anatomy of additional muscles of neck anterior region, injury of which during thyroid surgery can lead to complications. The data on preoperative ultrasonic imaging of these muscles cannot be found in sources. Ultrasonic screening of 1007 patients (480 females and 527 males) on Medison SONOACE X6 system with 7.5 MHz linear transducer using standard methodology was conducted. In 91 cases (9 %), pyramidal lobe of thyroid gland was identified by sign of «tubercle». In 47 cases (5 %) additional muscle joining to pyramidal lobe or isthmus of thyroid, look like a hypoechoic band with hyperechoic capsule was found out.
