Abstract

“You can tell the condition of a nation by looking at the status of its women”. India has traditionally been a maledominant society with low participation of women in the economy. But the fact remains that women represent nearly 50 percent of the total population, and it is crucial to encourage women's role in the economy at every level. The emergences of women entrepreneurs and their contribution to the national economy are quite visible in India. The number of women entrepreneurs has grown over a period of time, especially in the 1990's Women Entrepreneurs need to be lauded for their increased utilization of modern technology, increased investments, findings a niche in the export. The majority of them are still unaffected by change and development activities. They have benefited only a small section of women, i.e., the urban middle class women. The reasons are well sighted in this study. It is hoped that the suggestions forwarded in the research will help the women entrepreneurs in particular and society in general to look into this problem and develop better schemes and opportunities to the women folk to enter into more entrepreneurial ventures in all the segments.
