Abstract

Moringa oleifera is a potent medicinal plant in the Indian system of medicine. It is used in treatment of eye infections, arthritis, fever and as aphrodisiac. In the present study, qualitative chemical tests confirmed the presence of glycosides, amino acids, phytosterols, carbohydrates and phenolic compounds. The petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and methonolic extracts of leaves of Moringa oleifera were studied for its analgesic activity using tail immersion method, anti-pyretic activity by brewer's yeast induced pyrexia method and anti-inflammatory activity by carragenean induced rat paw oedema method on healthy wistar rats. It was observed that among all the extracts, methanolic extract produced significant effects.
