Abstract
In the article come under review main historical prerequisites for appearance of mythological painting in 17th century in Spain and process of Diego Velazquez's painting technique evolution in the end of 1620s beginning of the 1630s. Main evolutionary directions are highlighted by key works of art of the period. Drawn an analogy between works of Velazquez and Italian and North painters, which probably served as patterns for him. As the result of his longstanding work were not only the development and complication of his artistic technique but also a huge contribution to the development of ethnic school of painting.
