Abstract
The article is based on the memoirs and discusses the experience of creating a workshop without a leader in the State's first free art workshops in Moscow (since 1920 — VKhUTEMAS). Organization of the workshop without a leader became the original experiment in the search for new forms of art education in the framework of a major reform of art schools in post-revolutionary Russia. Even during the existence of the workshop with the active participation of its students was the Society of Young Artists (Obmokhu) — a well-known avant-garde artists association.
