Abstract
Russian life was radically altered after the October Revolution of 1917, and there was a need for new ways to organise it. In architecture the impetus to build a new world found its own literal and visual realisation. There was now a demand for new shapes and forms, a new language of art... Theatre played a special role in the development of architecture of the Soviet avant-garde. At the beginning of the century the stage turned into a laboratory that sought new ways to develop space for the new life, expectation of which was expressed in pre-revolutionary theatre productions. The first revelation came with the opera production ‘Victory Over The Sun' (1913).
