Abstract
The first edition of the “Prisoner of Caucasus”, published in September 1822, was quickly out of print, as it is well known. The poem had such a great success that in the middle of the next year the question of its republication was raised. Having denied N. I. Gnedich proposal, Pushkin charged Prince P. A. Vyazemskiy with the execution of a new edition, as well as the preface, but the cares, bounded up with selling and edition of “The fountain of Bakhchisarai” slightly slowed down the republication of the “Prisoner of Caucasus”. Only in the summer 1824, Pushkin thought that it was important to restart the negotiations with publishers with his old poem
