Abstract

Cervical cancer is one of the most common oncological diseases in the world among women, the proven cause of which in 99.7% of cases is the influence of human papillomavirus (HPV). Although HPV is the primary etiologic agent of cervical cancer, it is not sufficient, and a variety of factors contribute to the cancer development. Physiological and structural features of the virus, a special response to the human immune system cause dysplastic changes in the uterus, which have a great potential for malignancy. This article describes the mechanisms involved in these pathological processes, and also examined the issue of the prospects of studying viruses as a cause of development of cancer.
