Problems Faced by the Classroom Teachers in Multigrade Classes (A Case in Malatya Province)

Abstract

The overall objective of this research is to reveal the problems faced by teachers in multigrade schools and to contribute to the solution of the problem according to the findings of the research. This research is survey model carries a descriptive nature. The research was done with 146 teachers out of 201 who worked at184 schools with multi-grade classes in Malatya province. 76 % are male while the remaining 24 % are woman. When considering their tenure, 76 % are 1-5 year, 24 % are 6 year and more. “The management problems and solutions of the multigrade schools” has been used for scale in the collection of research data. SPSS was used to the analysis of the data that collected through the survey. Teachers participating in the survey stated that they will be more successful in the absence of managerial positions and are the lack of undergraduate training in administration. Teachers indicated that the support of parents on solving the problems of schools was necessary. Furthermore, the teachers participated in the survey expressed the view that setting a good communication with the other teachers in the school and the parents in the village would contribute to the solution of the problems. Teachers reported that they had experienced stress because of the attitude of the inspectors during the supervisors. Teachers indicated that the supervisors should take into account the working conditions during the inspections.
