Abstract
The article discusses the study by M. F. Zhiganov of the burial grounds of the ancient Mordovians in the Volga region of Nizhny Novgorod. Since 1955 to 1976 he studied: Senior Kuzedeevsky, Volchikhinskiy, Abramovsky and Pogibalovsky burial grounds. Their materials allow to reconstruct the ancient history of the Northern group of the Mordovian tribes of the I Millennium BC. This population is the ancestors of the Mordvins-Erzya.
