Abstract

The article features the results of the study of materials discovered in the course of salvage excavations at 75 barrows of the Scythian period in 2012 and 2014 within the territory of Central Tuva in the valley of the Eerbek river. Preservation of the items was facilitated by their contact with bronze articles. The article presents the description of 21 textile samples (Bai-Dag 6, Bai-Dag 8, Sausken 3, Sausken 7, Eki-Ottug 1) based on the following characteristics: dimensions, type of weaving, thread twisting direction. There are no items in the collection which have preserved intact. However, the author made an assumption on the functional purpose of the whole article originally composed of the discovered items on the basis of the structural features of the fragments. As a result of systematization of this collection and chronological attribution of the findings to archaeological cultures Tuva dating back to the Scythian period the authors determined possible trends in the development of textile manufacture in 1st Millennium B.C. within the investigated region.
