Abstract
The article highlights the process of the first Ukrainian newspaper «Rada» edition, based on the documents, and reflects the role of Eugene Chykalenko in the process of formation and development of the Ukrainian press in the Dnieper Ukraine territory. Chykalenko proved to be an active public figure, a talented organizer, a capable publisher, writer and philanthropist. With a broad outlook, organizational skills, patience, ability to work with people and inexhaustible energy E. Chykalenko was one of the prominent figures of the Ukrainian movement. The article traces the entire period of the newspaper edition (1906–1914): it focuses on the structure of the newspaper, its editorial staff, pays attention to the columns of the newspaper and the number of subscribers. The article shows the influence of the Ukrainian newspaper «Rada» on the process of the Ukrainian society national consciousness formation in the early twentieth century.
