Abstract
There is a need to investigate of issue of health and safety risks on highway construction sites. The main purpose of this study is to identify accidents by type of work for highway construction projects. It introduces the importance of health and safety in the highway construction. Health and safety in the construction plays a major role. Accidents involving in construction site occur due to workers are exposed to various kinds of environmental hazards, poor coordination and poor safety management. The risk in the construction site are influenced by the effort required to minimize the rate of accident risk of the site by, for example improving necessary safety measures and protecting the workers from hazards. Detecting the hazards in the site which could cause effect on workers is very much important for successful safety management. Because hazards not only effects the workers or work environment but also affects the time and cost of the project. If the hazardous environment in the site is not estimated properly and not protected properly, then the site will exposed to dangers which slow down the work progress, decrease in the productivity and increase in time and cost of the project.
