Abstract
Introduction. The principal method of schizophrenia treatment still remains antipsychotic medication. Taking into account the property of neuroleptics to increase the prolactin level, it is important to study the relationship of the hormonal status with the features of psychopathological symptoms and treatment response in women with schizophrenia. Aim of the study: the investigation of associations between prolactin level and features of psychopathological symptoms and treatment response in female schizophrenia patients during early stages of the disease. Material and methods. 60 women aged 18 to 35 yearswere assessed: 30 patients with schizophrenia (duration of the disease up to 3 years) and 30 healthy women. Clinical-psychopathological, laboratory methods, clinical scales SAPS, SANS and statistical data analysis were used. Results. Hyperprolactinemia was detected in 83.3% patients. Positive correlation between prolactin serum concentration and risperidone and conventional neuroleptics administration and severity of positive symptoms in the dynamics of treatment was observed. Conclusions. Elevated prolactin level is common in women with schizophrenia in the early stages of the disease associated with risperidone and conventional neuroleptics administration, as well as with less treatment response.
