Abstract
In the article, based on theoretical sources and analysis of the creativity of the Azerbaijani writer M. Suleymanly, the processes of qualitative change of the novel as a literary genre are considered. During the period of independence, Azerbaijani literature entered a specific stage of development, and this feature was more clear- ly embodied in the genre of the novel than in other genres of literature. Modern Azerbaijani novel developed in the context of more moral and ethical searches in the 60s and 70s, but in the 1990s, "nationalism became the main quality of Azerbaijani literature, which was the beginning of a moral, ideological struggle for national lib- eration, independence" and this was the beginning of a series of literary-aesthetic events. Consequently, the modern novel, including within the framework of Azerbaijani literature, develops on a new methodological and ideological basis
