A Computational Thinking-oriented Online Lesson Planning System
Journal: IEEE Technology and Engineering Education (ITEE) (Vol.7, No. 1)Publication Date: 2012-03-01
Abstract
The integration of computational thinking (CT) into the teaching and learning process across the curriculum at all educational levels is increasingly recognized by the society. To ensure the quality of the integration, appropriate lesson planning is indispensible. In an effort to facilitate lesson planning specifically for integrating computational thinking across the curriculum, a web-based searchable and shareable lesson planning system was developed. The lesson plan template used by the systems was inspired by the tested 5E instructional model and a computational thinking framework developed by Perkovi´c, Settle, Hwang & Jones. This new online system empowers teachers to create, search, adapt, and share lesson plans that incorporate the idea of computation thinking within the system.
