Abstract
With rapid expansion of infrastructure facilities in our country, the demand for concrete making materials has increased enormously. This demand has resulted in depletion of natural resources like aggregates both fine and coarse. Further higher production of cement has led to environmental concerns. Therefore, the alternate ingredients for concrete have become necessary. Use of pebble aggregates in the place of conventional coarse aggregate may help to reduce the demand of the latter especially in Gangetic plains where rock quarries are hard to find; in addition, replacing cement with GGBS reduces cement consumption. A concrete using pebble aggregate with replacement of cement by GGBS will result in economy and reduction of environmental damage. This project proposes to investigate the strength characteristics of pebble concrete with partial replacement of cement by GGBS. This research is an attempt to study experimentally the strength characteristics of Pebble aggregates in concrete. In this study several specimens are casted and tested to understand the strength characteristics of pebble aggregates.
