Abstract
Organised retailing refers to trading activities undertaken by licensed retailers, that is, those who are registered for sales tax, income tax, etc. These include the corporate-backed hypermarkets and retail chains, and also the privately owned large retail businesses. In other words, it is a network of similarly branded stores with an element of self-service.in this paper an attempt is made to study the evolution of Indian retailing and factors contribution to development of Indian retailing, finally, it focuses on different retail format exist in the market.
