Abstract
The roots of a profession of the teacher of vocational education should be looked for in the histo- ry of a pedagogical profession in general. The birth of a profession of the teacher contacts with requirement of transfer of knowledge, abilities and practical experience from one generation to another. The first teachers of vocational education have appeared in ancient civilizations where the children were given lessons in construction at schools, an irrigation and other professional knowledge. The first teachers of vocational education in ancient Russia should be considered handicraftsmen who gave to the pupils and general both professional knowledge and abilities. The tradition of vocational training has remained under production conditions till today in Russia
