Abstract
The article discusses the problems of translating Russian and Spanish linguistic terms to identify the errors in the speech of students and their translations caused by cross-language synonymy and homonymy; the reasons for inaccuracy are clarified. The lack of similar studies based on terminology accounts for the relevance and novelty of the paper; there is also a practical need for a metalanguage in translation, as Spanish and Russian are the most commonly used languages in the world. The main research methods applied are: quantitative, descriptive and comparative; they were used to interpret, categorize and organize the selected material. The Spanish dictionary of linguistic terms, including more than 3000 vocabulary units, was the main source of the material. The study revealed that the errors in translation were caused by different linguistic traditions, the time of a term's borrowing or formation, the peculiar features of the target language terminology system, the purpose of using the term, etc. The results of the conducted research will be useful for studying philology in the courses of Russian and Spanish
