Abstract

The article investigates the existence of a sense of humour in representatives of different types of temperament. It is analysed the relationship of the different styles of humour to the type of nervous activity. It is proved that sanguinics have a high level of management of their own and others' emotions, and a high level of understanding of their own and others' emotions, with an average level of control over expression. Cholerics are characterized by a low level of their emotion control, frequent inability to control their expressive displays, the average severity of the ability to understand their own emotions and a high level of understanding of other people's emotions. Melancholics are well aware of other people's emotions, are able to control their expressive manifestations, however manage other people's emotions badly and often inadequately understand their own emotional manifestations. As a result of psycho–diagnostic research, the highest level of extraversion and neuroticism was found among cholerics, and the lowest level among the phlegmatics, high performance on a scale of psychoticism belongs to phlegmatics, the lowest one to sanguinics. Cholerics have low level of emotional intelligence; phlegmatics have the lowest level; melancholics have medium one and sanguinics are characterized by high level of emotional intelligence. The results of the diagnosis by the method of R. Martin show that sanguinics (the majority) have dominated self–affirming style of humour that is characterised by the propensity to optimism, the tendency to maintain a positive vision of life, and the usage of humour to protect from negative experiences in stressful situations. A part of representatives has an affiliate style of humour, which shows the usage of humour in order to improve interpersonal relationships, where humour serves as a means of attracting attention and solving (avoiding exactly) conflicts. Sanguinics are not characterised by aggressive style of humour and self–destructive style of humour. Cholerics have self–reinforcing style of humour and affiliate, aggressive style as well as. The diagnostic results of predisposition to gelotophobia indicate that melancholics are the most confident in their own ridiculousness and sanguinics are the least confident, mostly melancholics and phlegmatics experienced ridicules in childhood, and severe phobia is occurred in one investigated melancholic. At the same time melancholics and phlegmatics often perceive laughing, even if it is positive, quite critically, often take offense and try to avoid situations where it is necessary to have a sense of humour.
