Abstract
Urban growth rates show no signs of slowing down, especially when viewed at global scale and attributed mainly to the enlarging population growth. The urban land use is the most dynamic system both on spatial and temporal scales and is being subjected to external influences that have direct bearing on components of the system, which are constantly evolving due to changes in technology, policy, economics, demography and even culture or values. This unrestrained urban sprawl is exerting detrimental impact on natural resources / landscapes and environment.
