Abstract
One dimensional nanostructures are of fundamental importance for the study of sizedependent physical and chemical properties. It has been a challenge to grow these nanowires and nanotubes. This article provides a review of current methods of growing nanowires. We begin this article with a brief introduction of nanotechnology and its applications. We then elaborate on the methods of growing nanowires in the following two sections: 1) physical vapour deposition and 2) chemical vapour deposition. We discussed two important physical vapour deposition methods, MBE and PLD, in detail. We conclude this review with the risk of nanowires for human health.
