Abstract
The Light Emitting Diode (LED) glowing stumps has become more popular in T20 cricket. The stumps light up every time the ball strikes it or a player whips the bails off. These stumps are very costly (around 25 lakhs). This project aims at replacing the conventional LED stumps and bails system with strain gauge - fitted LED stumps, which would make it cheaper. To demonstrate the concept, a strain gauge was mounted on a steel ruler and interfaced with a computer using virtual instrumentation software and a program was generated. The change in strain on impact of the ball was used to light a LED connected to the circuit. The proposed system could be cost efficient and easy to assemble, whilst fulfilling the primary function.
