Firewalls are core elements in network security. A firewall element determines whether to accept or discard a packet that passes through it based on its policy. Firewall allows separation between frontend and backend entity so as to ensure security. In this paper we have critically analyzed various firewall management policies and techniques and also have covered our views such that its major types, classification and applications.
