Abstract
The article presents an overview of Australia's multi-functional toponyms in diachronic and synchronic aspects. The paramount task of this study is to describe the main phenomena of the toponymic system: from the actual toponyms and to the nicknames and phraseological units formed from them. Multifunctionality of place names is considered on the example of cities, states and continent of Australia.
