The emergence and development of obstetrics is inextricably linked to the history of civilization. Today, it is considered a profession, the peer of medicine – worthy, useful and responsible. Through all epochs, the general development of mankind, linked to the development of science and various religious views, has a strong influence on birth approaches. The purpose of this article is to investigate the emergence and development of obstetrics as a profession during the different periods of human development, as well as its regulation in the world and in our country.
