Abstract
The Earthquake has a huge possibility to cause an extensive destruction in populated areas which causes massive loss of human life and excessive loss of economy. This cause of damage occurs due to inadequate knowledge of engineers which results in the inaccurate design of the structure. The building in the earthquake-prone area is very much susceptible to serious damage. The structure which is designed in the earthquake prone area shall not only be considered to withstand the gravity load but also the lateral load which will generate a lot of stresses and after that structure may resist the seismic forces. High rise building is governed by lateral loads hence it should be the major responsibility of the designer to accommodate suitable or adequate safety to structure against a load. Many buildings (existing one or newly build) are inferior to withstand the earthquake. This is due to the poor detailing of reinforcement. Hence the admittance of shear wall becomes essential in case of high rise buildings. Shear wall systems are commonly used lateral load vertical system in high rise building. These walls have very high strength and plane stiffness, which can be used to resist large horizontal loads. The location of shear walls in a building modifies the response of the Structure; hence for driving the maximum benefits, it is necessary to decide the position of shear walls.
