Abstract

Water hammer is generated when a change of the flow occurs, causing fluid particles to rapidly accelerate and to decelerate. The paper presents the results of measurements carried out in an experimental laboratory pipe-rig confirming that the classic water hammer theory does not apply in the presence of cavitating flow. The research also shows the steady and dynamic behavior of the system due to the valve closure
