Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate eighth grade students' skills in different types of problem posing. In addition, the students' problem posing skills were examined according to their problem solving attitude, gender and success variables. Survey method was used in the research. The study group consisted of 166 eighth grade students that were chosen by random sampling method. As data collective tools, a problem posing test and a problem solving attitude scale were used. In the analysis of the data, t-test, one way variance analysis and regression analysis were conducted. According to the analysis of the obtained data, it was seen that the eighth grade students had difficulty in problem posing. No significant differences were found in students' scores of the problem posing test according to gender. It was found that the students differed significantly in their problem posing scores according to their overall academic success and mathematics course success. It was also revealed that there was a relationship between students' attitudes towards problem solving and problem posing skills.
