Abstract
Particleboardsas one kind of the reconstitutedwoodproducts in their mantifacturestill re/y on the conventional wood materialfrom naturalforest, which in potency becomes limited and scarce. Consequent/y,use of alternativewoods or other ligno-cellulosicfibrous stuffs deservesthoroughconsiderationw, ith theirpotenry abundant and most/y still unutilized, such as bagasse (sugar-canefibers) wastefrom sugarfactories. In relevant, a research on particle board mantifacture was conducted using bagasseparticles bonded togetherwith ureaformaldehyde(UFJ adhesive. This researchaimed to look into the effect of UF content (i.e. 6%, 8%, and 10% based on the dry weight of the particles)on the physical-mechanical properties of the resultingparticleboard Results revealedthat increasingthe UF content broughtabout a significant decreasein the thickness swellingand water absorption of the board;and increases in M 0 R, MOE, and screw-withdrawasltrength,but inflictedso significantchanges on the moisturecontent, density, and internal bond Particleboardpropertiesthat couldfavorthe standardsof consecutive/y Indoneia (SNI)J, apan (!IS)and FA 0 eitherentire/y orpartial/y were density, moisturecontent, and M 0 R Thegreather the UF content, the more of thoseproperties satiifyingthe ]IS spesification. Judgingfrom in density, this experimented particleboardtuas more suitablefor use as room sheathing andframedtable-plane. Theparticleboars that looks the most prospectiveforsuchpurposeswerethose usingUF at 8% content.
