Abstract
Calcareous stone reserves in India is about 85,600 million tonnes. During the mining and processing of these stones Calcareous stone waste is produced. TIFAC(Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India), in the year 1999, had done a research and produced a report called Solid waste generation and utilisation in calcareous stone industry- TMS 151. According to this report Solid waste produced by India per annum is 17.8 million tonnes, and it gets accumulated to 250 million tonnes. These waste causes enormous troubles by contaminating water bodies, affects soil fertility, and when they are dumped in water bodies causes drainage problems. This research paper especially focuses on the waste generated in the town named Shahabad, in North Karnataka. This paper gives the properties, the problems created by this Shahabad stone waste generation and the possible remedial measures.
