Abstract
Introduction: ureterocopy is a endocopic technique that allow the diagnosis and treatment of stones, tumors and ureteric stenosis. The aim of this study is to report and analyze the results obtained by semi-rigid ureteroscopy in the management of urological pathologies at the Military Hospital of Nouakchott (HMN). Methods: It concern a descriptive observational study with analytical focus and retrospective data collection for 47 patients who underwent ureteroscopy, collected in the urology department of HMN during the period between May 1st. 2015 to April 30, 2017. Results: 5 diagnostic ureteroscopies and 42 therapeutic ureteroscopies were performed. The patient?s average of age was 37.94 ? 11.91 years (range: 12-60 years). The stone location were in 48.9% of the cases on the right, 38.29% on the left and 10.63% were bilateral. The average size of the stones was 12.24 mm. The stones were found in 42.6% of cases in distal ureter. We have used an 8 Fr ureteroscope with ballistic fragmentation system. The complications in our series were two cases of bleeding and grade 2 ureteral trauma that were successfully managed there rate was 6.38%. The overall stone free success rate in our series defined by the absence of residual fragments at three months was 80.9%. This rate increases to 90% in the distal ureter in our series. The average duration of hospitalization was two days. Conclusion: we conclude that semi-rigid ureteroscopy is a performance technical efficient and economic . It can be used as a first-line treatment for the treatment of lithiasis of the upper excretory tract.
