Abstract
The article is devoted to an under-examined problem of ordinary participants of the Ukrainian revolution of 1917-1921. The life of Mykola Zherlitsyn, an active Simon Petlioura’s supporter, elected to the Congress of working people of Ukraine from Katerynoslav province is highlighted. The cases of the Soviet secret police are analyzed as a historical source of composition and characteristics of participants of the Ukrainian revolution. The conclusion: the actively promoted stereotype about pro-Russian residents of the South Ukraine was erroneous.
