A pesquisa interdisciplinar na Ciência da Informação

This article seeks to reflect if interdisciplinarity contributes to the Information Science or harms in its development as a science. It aims then to reflect on some important aspects of interdisciplinarity and Information Science and its interface. Methodologically it is a reflective theoretical study, based qualitative studies and literature review. The discussion shall be based on the idea that one should not isolate such approaches but relate them in order to foster better understanding, improvement and construction of reflections. This kind of discussion is even more relevant due to the fact that the Information Science is a new and evolving science. Many of the authors are afraid to reflect upon interdisciplinarity as they consider that it makes more difficult for the Information Science to get its own identity. The results show that, despite some popular belief, interdisciplinarity helps to strengthen the science of information because it gives it a greater visibility and respect from other areas.
