Abstract
This article develops a panorama of the status and management of archeological sites in Lima, Peru. The fact that the city is so rich in archeological places makes their protection, management, and transformation into development resources an enormous challenge. It focuses on the role played by the social agents who are involved in the management process (e.g. State, local governments, private companies, and the civil society) as well as on the undertaken actions, identifying recurrent biases that limit such management. As an alternative, the creation of Archeological Heritage Management Networks is suggested, which would incorporate several sites into a participative-management system with the goal of encouraging and strengthening citizenship.
