Abstract

WATER RECHARGE ZONING FOR BASIS OF WATER RESOURCE CONSERVATION IN CIMANUK WATERSHED. Percentage of rainfall infiltrateinto soil is very important part of water resources conservation. Rainfall that infiltrate into soil can serve as groundwater supply that stabilizes the river flow. The purpose of thisstudy is to conduct water recharge zoning of rainfall in upstream Cimanuk watershed for evaluation of the current water catchment condition and direction of land use planning inthe future. Water recharge zoning obtained by overlaying the infiltration class map,graduation class of rock/soil map, slope class map, rainfall class map, and land use class map with Geographic Information Systems. The zoning results showed that area belongsto potential water recharge that low - very low consisted of 44.10 % of the total area, while that belongs to the medium recharge zone is 46,00 %, the high recharge zone is9.98%, and the very high recharge zone is 0.02%. This means that the natural absorption capacity of the Cimanuk watershed land on rainfall is classified to be low. According tothe current land use analysis, there is a decrease in high class infiltration area by as much as 1,805 ha. It has to have a particular attention, because the high class of waterrecharge zones has an important role in flood and drought control. In the future,development of residential or building area has to be directed to the zone of very low –low water recharge area in order to maintain the balance of infiltration capacity of the Cimanuk watershed.
