An Assessment Of The Influence Of Contradictory Narratives Of Revelation To The Works On The Chronological Arrangement Of Surahs

In this study, the different results that have arisen in studying to determine the times and rankings of the Qur'anic surahs have been examined. The causes of these outcomes have been determined and their reliability has been assessed. The better and correct understanding of the Qur'an depends on the knowledge of what it says to the people in the time period it was being revealed. This situation makes it compulsory to refer to the narrations regarding the time and the persons the verses are related to. Although this viewpoint seems to be reasonable and accurate, the difficulty of such a study and the consistency of the results to be obtained are often controversial. Problems are mostly related to narratives, but the researcher's approach to narratives and his/her preferences also influence the result. Nevertheless, it is clear that the studies carried out constitute important contributions to the understanding of the Qur'an and that they constitute the infrastructure for future studies in this field. After a general introduction to the subject, this study puts forward possible factors that make such studies difficult by giving examples, especially in terms of narratives, and makes evaluations on the results of these studies. We hope that this study will be useful for researchers interested in the subject and will provide a perspective on the evaluations made in the field of chronological arrangement of verses.
