Abstract
The article deals with the beginning of the training of engineers since the establishment in St. Peters- burg military special engineering school and the organization of the educational process. It is noted that during the second quarter of the XVIII century and later, the Russian state was in urgent need of trained engineering personnel of various profiles and purposes, as well as the measures that it has taken to resolve this problem
