Abstract
The article discusses and describes some features of the communicative competence of “Russian” Germans, as well as the extralinguistic factors that determine them. The source of information were the texts of articles about the life of Ge rman colonists in the second half of XIX century in Russia, selected by continuous sampling from the magazines “Vestnik Evropy” and “The Russian Messenger”. The analysis of the articles makes it possible to characterize the specifics of the Russian - German / German - Russian communicative interaction. This leads to the conclusion about the initial stage of such communication and the "capsule" type of perception of the surrounding reality
