Abstract
Pre - conditions of origin of Society of Red Cross are described in the Russian empire. The administrative vertical line of Society (Main Administration is circuitous and local managements - local committees are communities), forms of her functioning, is considered in peaceful and military time. Composition of members (the honoured members, members, are philanthropists, actual members and members competition) is analysed. Certain basic directions of activity of Russian Red Cross. An author marks in the total, that arising out of small circle of persons, Society grew in considerable organization, with the developed system of establishments sparse on all territory of the Russian empire.
