Abstract
The article deals with the structure of education described by the humanist Francois Rabelais in the novel «Gargantua and Pantagruel». Attention is drawn to the components of the humanistic education of the Renaissance. The humanistic formation of the Renaissance with the scholastic is compared. The article studies the role of reading and selection of literature in education. The article defines the principles that make the education described by Rabelais effective. The role of individualized education in the modern world is analyzed.
