Evaluation of nursing professional competence in adult intensive care in endotracheal aspiration

Abstract
A prospective and longitudinal investigation was carried out in the Adult Intensive Care Unit of the General Teaching Hospital "Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja" in Baracoa, with the objective of evaluating the competence of the nursing professional in relation to endotracheal aspiration technique, during January 2015 to August 2016. The study was performed with the total number of nurses working in the ICUs, 37. A theoretical and practical examination of competency assessment was done to the nursing professionals of ICUs and the aspiration technique endotracheal. The highest percent among nursing graduates and verticals presented an evaluation of bad, the sepsis increased from the fourth day of admission of the patients. Showing a marked degree of incompetence in performing this invasive procedure which affects patient safety.
