Epidemiological aspects of pregnant adolescents in the area of El Salvador, Guantánamo

Abstract
A prospective longitudinal descriptive study was carried out with pregnant adolescents in the rural area of Bayate, El Salvador, Guantanamo, in the period March-August 2015, to determine their knowledge about issues related to sexuality, sexually transmitted diseases, Contraception, pregnancy and motherhood. The universe was 232 pregnant women with an intentional sample of 82. Variables are used: age, marital status, schooling, occupation, and relationship with parents, talk about sex, reason for first sexual relationship, information about diseases and how to protect oneself and attitude towards motherhood. The information was obtained by survey. Prevalence was between 14 and 16 years old, marital status concubinage, primary schooling expired, unemployed adolescents, mother as housewife, farmer father, relationship with regular parents, talking about more frequent sex with friends, reason for first sexual intercourse because they wanted to. Pregnant adolescents represent more than a third of the total of pregnant women at this stage, the intellectual level of this group is low and the knowledge on these subjects is insufficient.
