Abstract

One of most threatening and common complications of cancer of the left half of the colon is obturation intestinal obstruction. Operations with application of the primary colonic anastomoses in a complicated course of colon cancer give many cases of leakage due to low strength of anastomosis. Besides, poor hermeticity of anastomosis requires further development and optimization of both surgical methods of treatment and methods of application of anastomosis on the compromised colon. In the article questions are analyzed concerning postoperative complications after resection of the left half of the colon due to obstruction in case of cancerous pathology. In the work, on the basis of analysis of literature data, the main risk factors for primary anastomotic dehiscence, causes of specific and nonspecific complications after primary enteroenteroanastomosis, causes and rate of lethal outcomes after left-sided colectomy are considered.
