Ocular conditions in pediatric patients seen in Neurophthalmology clinic, Oued, Algeria

Abstract
Introduction: when vision is diminished or absent it causes disabilities for children and slow learning. Objective: to determine the ocular affections of pediatric patients in Neurophthalmology consultation at the ophthalmological Hospital Amistad-Algeria-Cuba, El Oued, from January to June 2016. Method: an observational and descriptive study was carried out; also the universe was constituted by 825 children. The variables were studied: age, sex, ophthalmological diagnosis and type of treatment received by children. Results: 65.5% of patients were males; the most represented age was between 11-14 years for 48.5%. Refractive amblyopia and strabismus were the most frequent ophthalmological affections, in 60.6 and 15.8% of cases respectively. Conclusions: the work of the neurophthalmologist and his health team contributes to the treatment of amblyopia receiving most of the children optical correction in consultation.
