Abstract

World experience shows that the most radical and effective way to increase the volume of livestock production is to increase the productivity of animals. The main condition for increasing the productivity of animals is a strong and stable food supply. Therefore, before the fodder industry have the task to create a rational, biologically complete composition of nutrients, stable in quantity and quality and also economical at cost food base. A key aspect of solving this problem in the arid zone of the South of Russia should be the widespread introduction of drought-resistant forage crops that can provide high and sustainable yields at minimal anthropogenic costs. These highly productive crops include Sudanese grass, which has a number of valuable biological and economic characteristics: high drought resistance, versatility of use, unpretentiousness to environmental conditions and the ability to vegetative renewal after mowing, which allows to obtain 2 – 3 mowing of green mass and hay.
