Abstract
In this article on the basis of archaeological and written sources the issues of localization and history of Ishtikhon (one of the large towns of Sogdia) are considered. The analysis of archaeological and written data allows to assume that Ishtikhon has developed within the 6-7th centuries on the place of Ishtikhontepe monument, at Samanids it develops in high gear and functions up to Mongol invasions and conquests. In further centuries the main part of town becomes cemetery and a part – the settlement.
